Ghent is my favourite Belgian city. As a student I lived in Ghent for three years, so for me it’s always a pleasure to return. This time we stayed in the cozy bed & breakfast Brooderie. The B&B’s delicious organic breakfast served as the starting point for all our food trips. In Ghent you can get a map with all the organic addresses on it. This makes it a lot easier to find tasty new foodspots for lunch or dinner.

Café “Vooruit”, located in a large eclectic building that used to be the center of the local socialist movement, is a very relaxed meeting place with a unique outdoor terrace. They serve organic, local and fair trade products and have veggie dishes of the day. Read more »

Il Mezzogiorno is a Sicilian restaurant where they serve veggie dishes like Antipasto with traditional cheese from the interior of Sicily, and sundried tomatoes with mamma rosalia’s marinated and grilled veggies. Their ricotta, eggs and butter are organic, as are the wines. Read more »
Italian coffee and an organic bakery, that’s Barista in Ghent. They make bread, homemade cakes, pies and healthy sandwiches every day. Barista has a wide choice of tea, freshly squeezed fruit juices, smoothies and organic lemonades, and if you book online you can also enjoy a brunch, picknick or aperitif on a boat trip through the canals. Greenway in Ghent is a veggie fast food restaurant. Try a crisp fresh salad, organic ciabatta, a homemade soup or this tasty vegan kebab wrap, stuffed with seitan, lettuce, tomato, onion and a garlic curry sauce. Yummie! Read more »

We visited Brooderie in August 2013… An authentic, inviting, cozy lunchroom and bed and breakfast in the center of Ghent. Don’t expect a luxurious B&B.
