Hunted in the past for their bones and blubber by ruthless men, these stunning creatures are thankfully protected. They are slow swimmers and cannot always dive for long periods of time, making them easy prey, which is why they were named the ‘Right Whale’, the right whale to hunt. Read more »
Cape Town and its surrounding wine region is definitely one of our favourite destinations. Why? It must be the combination of the great little towns in the wine region and along the coast, the African penguins on the beach, and the boat trip to see the Southern Right Whales. And let’s not forget the delicious food and tasty wine!
A lovely photogenic scene with three penguins walking onto the beach in single file. African penguins are also known as Jackass penguins. Together with ostriches, Jackass penguins are the only flightless bird species found in Africa.

All material for planting and irrigation was donated, so was the labour. The harvest is used in a wine which is produced for free by sympathetic wineries. All proceeds flow back to the children. Read more »
Last year we visited Fairview for the second time, and I think the goat that greeted us this time was the exact same goat that greeted us all those years ago. Enjoy your lunch at the Goatshed restaurant. They offer cheese platters with cheese made from goats milk or cows milk from Jersey cows, bread and salads. Or visit Fairview’s wine and cheese tasting room. Read more »
Let’s start with the wine! We had a great wine tasting at La Motte. They have a few organic wines. The sauvignon blanc, one of our favourite wines, turned out to be one of them. Lucky us 😉 Read more »
