If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful and charming place on Crete to stay at and you can already imagine yourself having dinner under a dark blue sky filled with twinkeling stars, then look no further! Thalori in Katepanania is the place for you. Situated in the middle of nature at an altitude of 800 meters, Thalori consists of fifteen houses that were rebuilt almost a century ago. The buildings, that can accomodate 2-6 people, are part of the old village of Katepanania near the southern coast of Crete. When you plan to visit Thalori come over for at least three to four days so you can really enjoy your stay.

I enjoyed a delicious vegetarian lunch with Markos, who together with his wife Popi owns Thalori. I had a Greek salad with a variety of cheeses made from goats and sheep milk, boiled fresh beans, zucchini, eggplant and potatoes with olive oil and lemon. The vegetables come from their own garden or are bought, but they are always organic. The red wine is a blend of Syrah and Kotsifali grapes and is produced at an organic farm. Markos also produces his own fruity red wine. Of course I had to try that one as well: research! ; )

I was driven down to the sea by Markos’ father Michalis, who is a wonderful off road driver, to enjoy a refreshing swim.

Goats and sheep walk freely in the surrounding nature. We found these beehives near the beach. The bees produce wonderful thyme infused honey, because they love that violet flowered herb.
