The capital city of the UK is famous for its food trends so we were curious about the pure food. Plenty of organic, veggie and fair trade food can be found in London. If you like modern art, pay a visit to Tate Modern, when you are in London. If you do, don’t forget to go to the restaurant on level 6. It has one of te best views of London. Feng Sushi sources its fish from sustainable suppliers. Mainly from the UK and where possible MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) approved. Think of hand dived scallops form the Ethical Shellfish on the Isle of Mull and salmon from Loch Duart. SAF is an acronym for Simply Authentic Food and in Turkish the word saf means ‘Pure!’. We liked this place a lot! The kitchen is completely plant based and non-dairy with an absolute no meat and no wheat policy. They allow vegetarians, vegans, gluten avoiders and lactose intolerants to eat and drink without having to watch out for harmful ingredients. Everyone knows this group of customers is growing fast. Mildreds is a well known restaurant amongst vegetarians and vegans, but popular with omnivores as well. The menu is internationally inspired. Think of panfried halloumi for starters: cherry tomatoes with wilted spinach dressed with balsamic or hummous and smoky red pepper babaganoush.
Fruit and veg from the Market Garden, artisanal cheese from the Creamery, bread from the Bakery and organic meat from their own animals. Daylesford’s produce is fresh and seasonal and comes directly from their own organic farm. Visit their website to find the locations of their shops. Over the last few years the number of farmers markets has been steadily rising. One market that has been around long before this trend started, is Borough Market. It is one of the oldest, dating as far back as the 11th century. Situated right next to London Bridge Station it’s easy to reach by public transport. The Natural Kitchen has three locations in London. We went to the one at Marylebone. It’s mainly a food shop, but they have a cafe and restaurant and do food to go. The food is seasonal whenever possible, always free range, mostly organic and homemade. thenaturalkitchen.com
